Keeping it relevant: An object approach to training package content development that facilitates workplace contextualisation

As developers of training material for the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector we realise the value of an object approach to design and development. Creating reusable content objects offers reduced development costs and more flexible delivery options. However, VET training packages place a very strong emphasis on workplace contextualisation of learning content. The more contextual content is the less reusable it is. The challenge therefore is to create an object deployment framework, based on the Shareable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM), that facilitates workplace contextualisation. This is an investigation into how the quality of learning content can be maintained, in contextual terms at least, while using an object approach to design and delivery.
